About the project:
May 2nd 2011 saw the closing of iconic Melbourne institution The Arthouse, known affectionately as The Arty of North Melbourne. The Arthouse was home and breeding ground of some of Australia's finest punk, hardcore and metal bands. A musical landmark, a place of profound musical and cultural importance. It stood as a monument to a movement, charged with historical significance.
Parting Shots - The Last Nights of the Arthouse in Mugshots is a photographic project by Anna Brown. Punters, musicians, fans, staff, friends and family were photographed over the last weeks in operation of the venue and present a community of likeminded people who have actively contributed to the Australian punk scene and the rich cultural fabric of Melbourne.
"The Arthouse was the lynchpin for a community of likeminded people, almost a town square for these people to get together and see the bands they loved. The Arty is a central part of the punk/ metal outsider music scene in Australia".
- Liam White (musician, punter).
